Reader’s Question:

I would like to know what is the penalty for operating a car without auto insurance in California? Does it include getting SR22 car insurance form?

If you fail to provide proof of insurance in the state of California, you are violation the California Vehicle Code Section 16029. The penalties for driving without car insurance in California ar ethe following:

1. up to $500 fines
2. impoundment of the car including the storage and tow charges
3. drivers license suspension

If you got involved in an accident and you did not have the required liability insurance in the state of California, you will be required to show proof of liability insurance in the form of SR22; you will also have to pay for any injuries and damages as a result of the accident.

The cost of SR22 insurance can be very expensive and it will cost you twice as much as what you used to pay for your car insurance premium.

Make sure you always have the proper liability insurance required by the state of California. If you need to purchase car insurance today, why not get a quote first to make sure you are getting the best deal in the market. There are comparison websites, (just like you see above, that offer free car insurance quotes from various car insurance companies. In this way, you will able to get the best and cheapest quote that suits your needs and budget.
